Campaigns

n
a campagin weekend, our members leave the smog behind, disappear into the
bush and try to get back to the middle ages for a weekend. Feasting and
revellry is firmly on the agenda at these weekend events.
ne
of the highlights of our calendar is the biannual meeting at Armidale.
The
photo above is from the 1996 event
where the participants beseiged or defended a wooden fort. Members from
many different reenactment societies come to these events and a large component
of this particular event is reenacting combat.
he
photo below is of Samildánach members at our own campaign weekend
held in Watagan Mountains. From left to right, Eli is dressed as a Swedish
Viking with an Eastern European style helmet and heeled riding boots. Next
is Justin depicting an Anglo-Saxon, complete with Coppergate helmet. He
is fighting Gideon dressed as a Pict. Gideon is not wearing any shoes as
seems to be the fashion for Picts at this time. Behind Justin is Lee of
which you can only see the red Viking round shield and his leg. Lastly,
Rod strides into battle representing a Vendel warrior of the 7th century.
